About Q4CLNI

Quilts for Care Leavers started in Northern Ireland (Q4CLNI) in January 2021. This was following a conversation with the founder of Quilts for Care Leavers, Maggie Lloyd-Jones, where she gave her blessing for us to just make it happen.

In Northern Ireland, we organise the supply of quilts “Hugs” through social workers in the Health & Social Care Trusts or other appropriate agencies, for example VOYPIC.

The hugs are made by our members and volunteers who take special pieces of fabric, cut them up and then sew them back together again so it looks completely different. These creations come together on sew days, which we hold throughout the year, in different social groups or individually, with the sole purpose of providing a quilted hug for a care leaver, which may help towards lowering anxiety or stress and providing comfort when starting to live independently for the first time.

We are a community, sewing for our communities.
Our underlying motto is that you don’t need to know someone to care for them.

More information can be found on the tabs above. If these don’t answer your questions, use the Contact Us Form, and we will reply.
